Do you remember Bozi T's "Power for Pennies" write ups? I just thought of the greatest thing ever... something like !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! put into a RX8 Miata!

Kinja'd!!!

Just using a 302!

The end result would be, like,

In the real world, it would cost a lot less just to have a rainy day fund to repair the apex seals. Plus, later RX8's aren't that unreliable. You just have to maintain it a lot and know how to treat it. Save the LS's for the Miata. #SAVETHEROTARIES

Okay, I was going to argue with you... but I'm now considering asking my grandfather if when the 94 Miata's engine blows (it's making a decently loud clicking sound, probably a rod) if I can buy it for scrap value and swap in one of these V8's!

It would mess up the balance of the RX8, plus it would defeat the purpose of the RX8.

Because replacing a Rotary with an LS is so unoriginal and heinous, that it is a crime worthy of death. Plus, the Miata swap would be a lot cheaper.

I'd personally hunt you down if you took the rotary out of an RX-8 and shoved an LS in there.

I'm all for LS swaps, but ripping out a rotary for it? NO.

What if it was a broken rotary? Also, JWP convinced me to do it with a Miata instead...

You fix those damn seals and ride it for another 80k-100k then fix the seals again!

Good. There's not enough rotaries in the world as it is. Plenty of Miatas though.

Yeah, my grandpa has a (dying) 1994 Miata with an all original engine (basically) with 260k miles and something started knocking/ticking and he won't fix it... when it dies I going to ask to buy it from him for like $500 as a graduation gift from high school!

The cheap one that I've been mulling around for a couple months is the FB RX7. You unbolt the crossmember, flip it, and the 5.0 HO bolts right in. Much of the wiring and power steering pumps, fuel pumps, etc. is already Ford anyway.

The problem is finding good 5.0s anymore. There's even a freshly-painted roller for sale in Fort Riley.

Hm, sounds cool except that I'm considering do it with a Miata (of course all of this is still purely theoretical LOL) BTW are you going to C&C tomorrow?

Well do keep in mind the Monster Miata kit to make the work is $4000. That's not including the engine, transmission, or rear axle, all of which have to be from a Mustang. Granted, the RX7 only requires a 5.0 and a T5 tranny.

Yeah, I'll be there. I think my dad's coming too.

I'm sure my neighbor could help... he owns Chance Transmissions and builds racecars regularly! He said that he would be willing to help if I needed it! Also, I think that MonsterMiata can only ask so much because they have a corner on the market for 302 conversions for Miatas...

We have done it in a Miata as well but used an aluminum block LS :) Here it is below:
